Theme night

The SOFIMUN International Foundation pays additional attention to the presentation of cultures, heritages and traditions. In the 2009 summit there was an International Dinner where the participants at SOFIMUN had the duty to organize a stand with traditional food, beverages, costumes and take part in singing, dancing or performing another traditional element of their country of origin. However due to the extreme popularity of this kind of initiative since SOFIMUN 2009, the SOFIMUN International Foundation has decided to introduce another concept for the THEME NIGHT for the 2010 annual summit - SOFIMUN 2010.

Each year, the SOFIMUN conference organizes a special initiative that aims to promote the understanding and the dialogue between cultures and nations, the exchange of knowledge and visions. In 2010, the SOFIMUN conference will offer to its participants “Evening of World Political Figures”.

Designed as a masquerade, the evening will present people shaped and/or are still shaping our world in both positive and negative ways. Each SOFIMUN participant will have the chance to dress up / disguise as a figure from Ancient times to present days – from Alexander the Great and Pericles to Barack Obama and even the Tiananmen Tank Man (the man that stood in front of the tanks on Tiananmen square)

The choice of a popular leader is entirely up to the SOFIMUN delegates. The options are unlimited, they vary from positive to negative personages, political leaders and figures of all continents and all political sides. We hope with this initiative to contribute to the knowledge on historical and present events/figures in world politics. SOFIMUN warmly welcomes the creativity of its 2010 delegates in choosing the personage they want to present in order to contribute to the knowledge on historical and present events/figures in world politics. Delegates are entrusted to present these figures in an appropriate manner.

The SOFIMUN participants will have the chance to present a figure they believe has/had significant influence on the world – presidents, leaders of political parties, leaders of international organizations (such as UN and EU) kings, queens, emperors, tribe leaders, parliamentarians, prime ministers, etc. from Europe, Asia, Latin and North America, Africa, Australia.

- the leader you choose to present must NOT be from your country of origin

However, nonetheless the choice of personage is under the delegates’ discretion, SOFIMUN WILL NOT accept representation of Adolf Hitler or similar figures.

During the evening, the participants will have the opportunity to:

- Hold a speech: a popular speech by the leader they choose to represent (for example the “I have a dream” speech of Martin Luther King, the “Berlin” speech by J.F. Kennedy or even a speech before the Senate by Julius Caesar or some of the notable speeches of Fidel Castro!)

- Present the leader they choose with stories, quotes, pictures, music, etc.

SOFIMUN warmly welcomes the creativity of its 2010 delegates in choosing the personage they want to present.

The possibilities are endless: from Attila The Hunt and Genghis Khan through Charles V, Richard Lionsheart , Ekaterina the Great, Shaka Zulu, Che Guevara, and William Wallace to Margaret Thatcher, Stalin, Simon Bolivar, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Jawaharlal Nehru, Kim Jong Il, Kofi Annan, Juan Peron, Josip Broz –Tito, and many, many more.
